Van Patten Publishing is an independent book publishing company that was formed and founded in 1998. The founders had a dream when forming the publishing company after buying the Jorge Cervantes rights. Their first 1,000 print run of Indoor MJ Horticulture was printed at a local Insta-Print shop on regular copy paper which contained hand-sketched drawings. The booklets were hand-collated and stapled together. First year’s sales were an incredible 6,000 books sold.
Van Patten Publishing had experienced the hardship of publishing and the rejection of the publishing community and large distribution companies. The publishers knew that if they put the right ingredients together: give the public what they want, package and edit the information in a nice colorful format, market and sell the product, that their products could over time become a success. They understood there was a market for this subject area. They figured that hard work and dedication would one day bring them success.
Today print runs of 6,000, black & white, hand-collated and stapled booklets are a thing of the past. Today Van Patten Publishing is proud to announce their annual print runs range from 50,000 – 100,000, up to 512 pages of full color gardening books with full distribution channels through Ingram, Baker & Taylor, Amazon.com Advantage, and international accounts. Their best selling title was dubbed “the bible” by its readers before the words were added to the front cover of the book. To this day this book and other Van Patten Publishing titles have been recognized worldwide and have received hundreds of reviews.
Van Patten Publishing has printed and translated books from English to Spanish and Italian. In 2009 translation works for Dutch, German, and Russian languages will have been completed. Van Patten Publishing stocks titles in three warehouse locations: Ladysmith, WI, services retail and distribution accounts; BookMasters , Inc., Ashland, OH, services mail order and phone orders; Warehouse in Spain services the overseas distribution accounts.
The dedicated, enthusiastic, and hard working staff (artists, graphic artists, contributors, editors, photographers) have contributed significantly in helping Van Patten Publishing make a giant leap forward into the future.
Today they publish books on hydroponics, greenhouses, indoor and outdoor gardening. Their market: experienced and novice gardeners. Van Patten Publishing owes their success to these people who have trusted this publishing house to give them, the consumer, what they need.
